A renewed trademark for the game – filed back in July, but only recently spotted by SegmentNext – has popped up in Mexico, leading some to speculate that if Konami’s upcoming TGS spot doesn’t involve Castlevania, Metal Geat Solid, or Silent Hill, then it just may be about a new installment of the classic RPG series. The filing – spotted by posters on Reddit and shared at ResetEra – tells us that the filing was made at the end of July and… well, not much else, actually....

The California DFEH is, you may recall, the state department which filed the original complaint against Activision Blizzard for running a studio allegedly rife with sexual discrimination, harassment and a “frat boy” culture. Last week, the DFEH objected to a $18m settlement between Activision Blizzard and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), essentially saying the agreement impacted its own efforts for justice and risked letting Activision Blizzard off the hook....

In an interview with Yakuza fan site Tojo Dojo, Yokoyama revealed that whilst the Yakuza series has sometimes offered English voice-acting, Like a Dragon: Ishin’s “specialised vocabulary […] would make the lines incredibly long”, so the game will be translated into English via subtitles. “No, [Western players] don’t really watch subtitled content," Yokoyama acknowledged in the interview (thanks, PC Gamer). “Especially in English speaking countries. That’s why they prefer to have voice overs....

For the uninitiated, Net Yaroze was a Sony project that made available to hobbyist coders a basic version of the PlayStation dev kit for £550. Around 1000 units were sold in Europe, which effectively created a ready-made community of budding developers working independently on the PlayStation platform. A Magic Castle prototype was built using Net Yaroze, but unfortunately the game was never finished or released....

Featuring courses from across the series, DLC tracks will arrive in Waves as part of the Booster Course Pass, with new tracks arriving two cups at a time. By the end of 2023 the courses will all be available - and until then, we’re left with datamines as to what to expect. The leak comes from YouTuber Brad Lynch, known as SadlyItsBradley, who posts videos on VR and AR. The headset which Lynch detailed in his video “This is the Meta Quest 3” is a different headset to the Meta Quest Pro that was found in a hotel and unboxed earlier this month. In his video, spotted by Road to VR, Lynch revealed CAD files along with “speculation and details” he claimed to have gained from sources....

Call of Duty has remained a focal point during government scrutiny of Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal, with regulators - including those in the UK and Europe - raising fears Microsoft may leverage the juggernaut franchise to gain an unfair advantage over its competition. Reports in September revealed Microsoft had initially pledged to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for “at least several more years” beyond Activision’s existing deal - an arrangement PlayStation boss Jim Ryan would go on to call “inadequate on many levels” - but as regulatory scrutiny deepened, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said the company would continue releasing Call of Duty on Sony’s consoles for “as long as there’s a PlayStation out there to ship to”....

Specifics are somewhat limited at the moment - Mojang’s announcement doesn’t amount to much beyond a ‘save the date’ - but the developer is teasing appearances from “new and familiar faces” within the studio and Minecraft community for “in-depth interviews, exciting reveals, a nail-biting vote, and puns galore”. Last year’s show saw the announcement of Minecraft’s massive Caves & Cliffs update (which has since been split into two more manageable development chunks), and gave fans the opportunity to vote on the Minecraft Dungeons or Minecraft Earth mob they wanted to see introduced to the main game - with the exotic Glow Squid ultimately being the oceanic victor....

Ubisoft is set to release a slew of new content as part of For Honor’s upcoming sixth year, but crossplay is without a doubt the most eagerly anticipated feature to be addressed. “Crossplay will be deployed in 2 Phases in For Honor,” the developer revealed in a blogpost. The first phase will be released on 17th March for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, alongside the launch of Y6S1 (more on that in a mo)....

This “definitive, modern edition” of Myst (not to be confused with the game’s first fully 3D remake, realMyst, released back in the year 2000) debuted on the Oculus Store last December, significantly sprucing up the iconic islands first introduced to players back in 1993. New art and sound are the most obvious improvements to the original game - alongside a photo mode to easily record clues and a randomised puzzle option for those seeking a greater challenge - but this latest version of Myst is also “built from the ground up” for VR....

The latest example of this sees Joel on horseback, as the screen slides between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same scene. “Get ready to hit the dusty trail for a beautiful - and dangerous - journey across America in The Last of Us Part 1,” Naughty Dog proclaimed in its tweet with the footage, which you can see below. As well as this example, the developer has also released shots comparing the game’s characters, specifically highlighting Tess’ “glow up” between console generations....

Last week, several high-profile Fortnite leakers spread word that the game’s stars Joel and Ellie would be joining Epic’s infamous battle royale. But Druckmann has now poured cold water on the claims, calling them “false rumours”. “Love me some Fortnite,” Druckmann said, “but there are no plans for this.” Unusually, Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR - who has a strong track record - has since issued a lengthy post explaining more about how they heard about the supposed collaboration....

Exploding Kittens - The Game will launch via Netflix next month, as the latest mobile title available to subscribers. An Exploding Kittens adult animated series is also on the cards, with Lucy Liu and Lucifer star Tom Ellis attached to provide voices. That project won’t arrive until 2023, however. From the sounds of it, this new mobile version of Exploding Kittens will play similarly to the card-based original. Players take turns to draw cards without being exploded themselves....

Or there’s the Haptophobia monster, which I think ought to be Haphephobia because it’s based around a phobia of touching. Here, it’s a creature made of many hands that all reach out and grab at you when it attacks, and it’s grotesque. There are others but I don’t want to spoil them. But it’s the way they’re brought to life, the way they look and behave, moving as if made for a vintage cartoon, in a kind of flick-book animated way, which speaks to a kind of quality in Neurodeck which elevates it....

The information comes from a Bloomberg interview [paywall] with Kim Chang-han, CEO of PUBG Corp’s parent company Krafton, who said the company would “not stay as a one-hit wonder”. According to Bloomberg, Krafton plans on releasing a new mobile title this year that will be based on PUBG, in addition to another PUBG-related PC and console title by next year, then followed by the release of The Callisto Protocol in 2022....

Polish studio The Astronauts said the trailer, below, shows off Witchfire’s “rapid gunplay and new open-level design (not to be confused with fully open-world gameplay)”. DLSS 3 is Nvidia’s fancy graphics tech that uses AI to generate additional frames while keeping image quality and responsiveness up. Creative director and co-founder of The Astronauts Adrian Chmielarz said of the tech: “You start the game, push all graphics options to the max....

Helen Bevan, who is chief transformation officer of NHS Horizons, saw her two Twitter accounts with a combined 133,000 followers hacked and then used to flog fake PS5s, the BBC reports. According to the BBC, Bevan paid £110 to someone who said they could restore the accounts within 25 minutes, but they turned out to be a scammer as well. Bevan hadn’t properly enabled two-factor authentication on her Twitter accounts, it emerged....

The PC version of Nier: Automata that launched into Xbox Game Pass this week is a port of the Nier: Automata Become as Gods Edition that launched on Xbox One in 2018 with the DLC thrown in. This port, handled by developer QLOC, includes a number of enhancements, such as a borderless video setting, FidelityFX options, HDR, and user interface textures upscaled to 4k. The borderless video setting is particularly welcome - it means Nier: Automata runs at the right resolution when it boots....

ORIGINAL STORY 15/10/21: Nintendo has apologised for a progression prevention bug in Metroid Dread. The error message “The Software Was Closed Because an Error Occurred” appears near the end of the game, causing it to forcibly close. An article on the Nintendo Support page goes into further detail. “We are aware of an error in the Metroid Dread game that prevents the player from proceeding when the specific sequence below is followed near the end of the game,” it reads....
