This morning, Fortnite received update 16.50, the last patch expected before its next season on 8th June. Eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed several changes around the island: a crashed helicopter near the dam, posters showing UFOs and friendly aliens at the beach, and flattened corn at the farm. 3pm UK time today brought a new set of “Foreshadowing” challenges live, where you’re asked to investigate that helicopter, as well as a series of smashed telescopes on the island....
The Foundation is voiced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and, alongside his skin, you’ll be able to unlock a selection of Foundation themed cosmetic items, such as the Foundation’s Mantle. Arriving halfway through the season, thankfully there is just a single challenge needed to unlock the skin itself. Note this particular challenge is no longer able to be completed. What’s new? Chapter 3 Season 3 has arrived! New additions include Reality Seeds and Saplings and riding animals, along with the new Battle Pass, characters collection and map changes....
It comes in the wake of Microsoft’s shock announcement that it plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, prompting this retailer to seemingly notify customers shopping for PS5 hardware to “choose [their console] machine carefully”. As spotted by VGC, the notice - which says “Notice to gamers, Microsoft has bought Activision! Choose your machine carefully”, with the handwritten addendum “(Call of Duty)” so buyers are aware what franchise the acquisition impacts - appeared in French retailer Cora, which reportedly has 60 stores in France, and a further 20 in Romania, Belgium and Luxembourg....

Previously, the FTC’s involvement in the deal had signalled a headache for Microsoft, which is facing regulatory approval around the world, and close scrutiny here in the UK. A lawsuit looked imminent - potentially blocking the acquisition, or carving out major concessions. However, a fresh report by the New York Post into the FTC panel set to decide the deal’s fate suggests the trade body is now looking more likely to let it pass....
This morning, Keighley took to Twitter to post the announcement. “Give me a minute but Gamescom 2023 dates have been announced - including Opening Night Live,” he tweeted, alongside a picture of a banner from the show floor with the dates for next year printed on. The dates shown on the banner are 23rd - 27th August 2023, with Opening Night Live happening the day before on 22nd August. This year’s trade fair is currently underway until 28th August, and Eurogamer is on the ground in Cologne right now....

These things don’t sound as if they go together, but I can assure you they do, and that’s the magic at the heart of Genesis Noir. It’s both a silent film in black and white, featuring dames with big hair, irresistible jazz performances in smoky clubs and, inevitably, crime, and also an illustration of the birth of our universe. To call Genesis Noir a game would likely do it a disservice, but people tend to get very cross with me if I don’t tell them exactly what kind of game they can expect, so let’s call it a point-and-click adventure....

Arguably, Gran Turismo as a complete package reached its peak in the PlayStation 2 generation - with the shift to HD on PS3, there’s the sense that Polyphony Digital struggled to transition the series to this new era and while the games that followed were well-made, a certain purity and joy had been lost. On a technological basis, there’s the argument that the studio pushed too hard, hitting hard limits in the PS3 hardware....
Confirmation comes from a note to press from new publisher Kepler Interactive, which is co-founded by Scorn developer Ebb Software. Scorn is an upcoming first-person survival horror adventure video game due out on PC and Xbox Series X and S. It’s inspired by H. R. Giger of Alien fame. Scorn caught the eye after it appeared in a first look at Xbox Series X gameplay broadcast in May last year....
The fangame was created and sold by a group called KWSK Karuta. Consider that strike one. The fangame was called Chef Kawasaki’s Micro Bikini Karuta. Consider that strike two. If you’ve not heard of them before, karuta are Japanese playing cards. KWSK Karuta had manufactured physical and digital decks of karuta, and was selling them through an online Japanese art marketplace called Booth. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the designs being sold are a little less savoury than the family-friendly image the Kirby series has....
That said, it’s also fair to say that the PC version can be unexpectedly heavy on both CPU and GPU, there are many technical blemishes that need addressing, while 343 Studios fails to tap into any of next-gen features that work so well on modern PC set-ups - so there’s no ray tracing (yet), no AI-based super-sampling and even variable rate shading (VRS) as seen on the console builds is totally absent on PC....
